On the lookout for something truly unique?
How about a bronze diver, rated to 1000m (3300 ft) of water resistance, that has a dial made with metal from a 4.5 billion year old meteorite?
Zelos Watches, a Singapore based micro-boutique, recently released news of their latest design, the Hammerhead Diver. The Hammerhead is inspired by classic divers from the 1970’s, but updated with the latest in materials and production technology.
The Hammerhead will be produced in several different variations, all of which use unique materials. The case is available in either marine-grade bronze or 316L stainless steel. Each of the case materials comes in four dial and bezel styles.
The bronze case is available in: black dial with ceramic bezel insert, gunmetal gray dial with full bronze bezel, blue dial with full bronze bezel, or meteorite dial with full bronze bezel.
The steel case is available with: black, blue, or meteorite dial with black bezel insert, or gray dial with Damascus steel bezel insert.
My favorite out of all of these is the marine bronze case featuring the meteorite dial and full bronze bezel. I’ve written before about my love of bronze diver’s, due to the beauty of the metal and its unique patina.
Each and every meteorite dial has a different pattern, formed over millions of years of slow cooling. These are known as the Widmanstatten Patterns. Zelos Watches is using material from the Muonionalusta meteorite which was found in Sweden and landed on Earth from space approximately a million years B.C.E.
Besides the impressive styling, the Zelos Hammerhead diver also sports rather impressive technical specifications. The crystal is a highly double domed sapphire with inner anti-reflective coating. Each watch is powered by the high quality Seiko NH35 automatic movement. And the 1000 meters of water resistance is quite impressive.
All of this is fitted into a 44mm case, which while large is not gigantic. With its 49mm lug to lug length and 17mm height the Hammerhead will have a significant wrist presence without being overwhelming for most people.
The Zelos Hammerhead is currently available for preorder, with a price range of $399 to $689, depending on variation (meteorite and damascus steel versions on the higher end). They’re estimating delivery in November or December of this year.
And I really want one.
