Spinnaker Bradner SP 5057 Compressor

Spinnaker Watches, makers of inexpensive yet rather nice looking watches, have just released a lovely vintage-inspired diver – the Bradner SP 5057.

The Bradner line of watches is named after Hugh Bradner, an American physicist and inventor of the neoprene wetsuit.

Personally, I’m a huge fan of the two-crown, internal rotating bezel compressor divers of the 1970’s, and this watch is pushing all the right buttons for me. I’ve never dove with one though, and I’m pretty sure using the crown to set the internal bezel would be a pain to use in the cold water I dive in.

Besides the general compressor style, the Bradner SP 5057 has a number of other nice features. A slightly domed crystal gives a bit of a port-hole look to the dial. Speaking of the dial, the applied square markers which are heavily filled with Super Luminova just look amazing.

Filling the bezel markings with lume also makes the Bradner stand out, and would make it super simple to tell the elapsed time at a glance. The hands are nice and thick without taking up the whole dial, and look like they should be clearly visible in all conditions.

Spinnakers logo is engraved on the crown, which is always a nice touch for manufacturers to include.

The Brander SP 5057 is powered by the NH35 automatic movement (Seiko 4R35) which has a 41 hour power reserve, and is an accurate workhorse movement featuring hacking and hand-winding capabilities.

As is usual for Spinnaker Watches, the Bradner is available in 5 different color combinations, all coming on a waterproof leather strap (yes, a diver on leather, sacrilege I know).
