Oris has released a new version of their 1960’s vintage inspired diver, the Oris Divers Sixty-Five.
Following up the blue-dialed version released at Baselworld 2016, the new edition features a lovely sea-green dial.
(Side note: In regards to the banner image on this page of the Sixty-Five on the dock – it was released by Oris in their press section. I’m not sure why a company like Oris would choose to rather horribly photoshop their new diver onto a background, instead of just going out and getting a picture of it. Usually their press images are of much higher quality.)
I’m a pretty big fan of the Sixty-Five, and Oris divers in general. Oris first released the Sixty-Five in 2015, reviving one of Oris’s first divers watches which was introduced in 1965. They’ve since done a number of different editions, including the limited edition bronze Carl Brashear.
They’ve updated the look for the modern era, while keeping a number of retro details such as the slim case, thin bezel, and a trapezoid shaped date window.
New enhancements include a uni-directional bezel, domed sapphire crystal, and Super-LumiNova paint on the markers instead of the radioactive tritium used in the sixties.
The new Divers Sixty-Five is available with a few different strap styles: black rubber, green and black NATO, aged leather, and stainless steel bracelet.
Initial reaction from other press seems to favor the green and black NATO, but personally that’s just too much green for me. I much prefer the aged leather strap. I’ve always like a good green/brown color combination.
The case back is solid stainless steel with Oris’s logo engraved on it. This is keeping with the retro-styling, as many of Oris’s other more modern watches include a sapphire display case back, featuring their red winding rotor.
The stainless steel bracelet is styled just like its 1960’s ancestor – with round headed pins holding the links together.
The green-dialed Sixty-Five isn’t listed on their website quite yet. It’s due to be available starting October 2016.
